Bellamy Mansion

The Bellamy Mansion (1859-1861), a spectacular example of antebellum design, is one of the nation’s premier architectural and historical treasures. The opulent, columned mansion evidences the South’s exuberant classicism on the eve of the Civil War and was built by free and enslaved black artisans.
Now the restored house is a museum that focuses on history and the design arts and offers tours, changing exhibitions and an informative look at historic preservation in action. The 1859 slave quarters, a rare survival of a once important urban building type, and one of the best preserved examples in the country, is currently under restoration.
The Bellamy Mansion Museum — a stewardship property of Preservation North Carolina – is located at the corner of Market Street and 5th Avenue in historic downtown Wilmington, North Carolina.
