It Feels Good and God Approves
Would you believe that I have been writing this column for almost a year and a half? When I began, I believed it was impossible to produce an article a week about Blake’s Chapel, but I’ve found quite the contrary. So much goes on that I have a backlog of articles that I’m going to revise for the coming year.
Usually at the beginning of the year, one of the deacons or the pastor asks those serving the church, (in whatever capacity), if they would like to continue into the New Year. Of course they are praying that everyone continues, and you know as well as I do that once you volunteer for something, it’s like the wedding vow, "…until death do we part".
When you first take on a responsibility, one of our first concerns is whether we’ll have the time to do the job appropriately. But God’s word assures us that He is faithful - He’ll give us both the will and the time.
So here I am, one and one half years later, still writing.
I have come to enjoy this part of my assumed responsibility and I think in general, the same is true for other volunteers. The Lord loves a cheerful giver, and in this day and age, time seems to be one of the most valuable commodities. It never ceases to amaze me that whatever the need at Blake’s Chapel, the Lord provides, and most often with willing laborers.
In all the time I have attended Blake’s Chapel, I have never heard a cry of desperation for help. There is always someone who steps up to the plate to arrange garage sales, grounds keeping, the Christmas pageant, building cleaning and maintenance, and car washes for support of VBS, youth activities and missionaries.
We’d be amiss if we didn’t mention those pot luck suppers. After all, Blake’s must maintain it’s reputation for being the "eatingest " church.
I can’t think of anyone at Blake’s Chapel Advent Christian Church who has taken on a responsibility and moans and groans about it. After all, we are all part of the church, dependent upon each other. As part of the body of Christ, we don’t function well as separate entities.
I Cor. 12: 13 - 14 " For by one Spirit were we all baptized into one body…(and) the body is not one member, but many."
1 Cor. 10: 17 "For we being many are …one body."
In any case, being involved in a church feels good, and God approves.
Come visit us at Blake’s Chapel. You’ll be glad you came.
