Topsail Island Fishing Report 04-22-08

Topsail Island, NC - Hi folks,Capt. David here with this weeks outdoors report.
The fish are starting to get a little more active with the warmer water. The Bluefish are thick and will hit just about anything. Reds are hanging around some of the docks and in the surf. The north end of Lea Island is a yearly hotspot and now is no different. Lots of Speckled Trout are being caught up in the River. The Specks are back in the creeks in any deep hole you can find. Be quiet and fish slow for the best results.
Offshore the fish are biting but the weather is convincing a lot of smart folks to stay on the hill. 20 -25 miles out seems to be a good place to start from what I am hearing. Temperature changes, current rips, weedlines, or reefs are the best places to start. Be careful and check the weather forecast and use your head when planning an offshore trip folks. I know I rant and rave about safety all the time, but maybe it will stick in your mind and keep you from being on the news!
Turkey season is in full swing and I've heard of a few birds being taken and I am proud of anybody that can get a longbeard. Heck I can't seem to do it! Anyway, I hope to change that this weekend in Sparta N.C. when me and a couple of my buddies go huntin'. Even if I don't get a bird it's still a beautiful place! Any time spent in the great outdoors is time that should be shared with good friends and family. Even if you don't hunt or fish, time outdoors is still good. We are blessed with many rare and unusual plant and animals in this area. Venus Flytraps, Pitcher plants, Fox Squirrels, Sea turtles, Bald eagles and osprey's to mention a few. Hey the weather is getting warmer so get off your tail and get some sun! Well thats it for this week so remember to take a kid and be safe!
