Topsail Island, NC Fishing

Hi folks, Capt. David here with this weeks outdoors report.

When the wind ain't blowin' the fish are biting! Water temps are in the mid 70's now and everything in the water is fired up. Lots of 1-2 lb Blues are around and some big chopper blues are biting as well. Folks these big Blues are vicious and will bite the heck out of you so handle them carefully! Redfish are biting around the docks and on some of the points around the creek mouth's now. If you can find some live bait, that's the ticket to a big Red. Some flounder are being caught in the surf and back in the sound, but most of them are small fish. The big ones ought to be here soon. Some nice Mullet are being caught in the surf, mostly at night, along with Pompano and Croaker.

The Spanish are here and are thick around the Inlets and the bite is early morning folks. Now that don't mean you can't catch them all day, It just means they are biting the best in the morning! Trolling a 00 Clark Spoon on a planer is the best way to fill a cooler. Sometimes they like the gold color and other time they will only hit a silver spoon. The best way to find out which they want is to troll both and when you catch a few and figure it out, fill the cooler!

The kings are around and are being caught from the piers. Mostly smaller fish but the big ones are coming. Anywhere between the E-bouy and Christmas rock are hot right now. Farther out the Wahoo and Mahi are biting but the weather is the limiting factor. Bottom fishing is good with Black Bass and snapper biting and farther out on the ledges the Grouper are biting too.

Be careful before you head out the inlet folks. The weather can be dangerous this time of the year.

It really doesn't matter what you fish for or whether you fish from the beach, pier or boat the fish are biting and you really need to go fishing! Just call the boss and tell him the little voices in your head are saying you need to go fishing. Oh, inviting him to go with you might not be a bad idea. He needs to relax as well!

Well thats about it for this week folks so remember to take a kid with you and be safe!
