This week’s Fishing Report for the Topsail area from Captain Dave …
Gulfstream…. Wahoo has been the name of the game. North of Same Ole has been the place. Dark colors on large baits down deep seem to be doing the trick. Mahi and a few Yellowfin mixed in just to keep things exciting. As the offshore waters to the North start to cool down the Yellowfin bite will only get better.
Offshore….. King Mackerels are on the menu. Rigged Ballyhoo or Rigged Cigars will do the trick. Hot spots include 23-mile rock, The Tower and the WR-4. Bring lots of bait and expect some short strikes. The Mahi bite has cooled off but they are still around. Cudas are plentiful along with AJs.
Inshore…. Flounder, Trout and Drum are all biting. Live bait and Gulp baits seem to be doing the trick. The inlet and near shore rocks hold plenty of action. I love fall fishing. It does not get any better.
Offshore Bottom…. It’s ON! The offshore waters are alive and feeding. In the last week, we have caught everything from Cubra Snapper to hogfish to groupers, (all 3 kinds), to Trigger fish out the wazoo. You name it and it is biting. The Grouper are on the move and in the feeding mode as they get ready to spawn. Gags out to 20 miles, Reds from 20 on out mixed in with Scamps. Cutbait, Cigar Minnows and Squid are the baits of choice.
